The UGA Germanic & Slavic Studies department is pleased to congratulate Russian major and German minor Mariah Cady for her tremendous achievement.

Cady will join scholars from 64 countries around the world at the University of Oxford in October. There, she plans to pursue two master's degrees: one in linguistics, philology, and phonetics, and the other in refugee and forced migration studies. She plans to specialize linguistially in Indo-European languages and to study Arabic, Turkish, and Greek. She also hopes to reflect critically on how governments can improve their refugee resettlement policies, and looks forward to using her studies to prepare for a career in diplomacy.

As Mariah is a Russian Flagship student and a Boren Scholar, she is currently spending her final year in Kazakhstan at the Al-Farahi Kazakh National University. She previously spent time abroad in Erlangen-Nürnberg through GSS's study abroad program at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität.

We are so proud of Mariah and all she has accomplished during her time at UGA. We cannot wait to see what she achieves at the University of Oxford and beyond!
