Erlangen International Student Exchange

Founded in 1743, Friedrich Alexander Universität has a rich history. It is a strong research university with an international perspective and one of the largest universities in Germany, with around 39,628 students, 244 degree programmes, 4,000 academic staff (including over 580 professors), 171 million euros (2013) third-party funding, and 500 partnerships with universities all over the world.

  • Winter semester October-March; Summer semester April-September
  • Mandatory orientation courses held in October for the Winter semester, April for the Summer semester

Eligibility Requirements

  • UGA student in good academic standing
  • Must have completed at least two years of higher education
  • German language proficiency matching GRMN 3010 level coursework
    • Students will be asked to provide proof of German language proficiency in their FAU application

Funding Opportunities

  • German majors can apply for a Kicklighter grant for up to $1,000. 
  • German majors can apply for the Babu Chalam Study Abroad Scholarship
  • FAU has a list of funding financing options here
  • Upon admission to the program, FAU will provide funds for two students to work at the Sprachenzentrum in Nuremberg which pays $2000/semester or $4000/year. This is in addition to a stipend of the same amount provided by FAU.
