OVERVIEW Dr. Babu Chalam is an alumnus of the Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies. He grew up in south Georgia, was a German/International Business major at UGA (1998-2003), during which time he spent a summer in Erlangen and a year in Heidelberg. After working for more than a year with various companies in the Czech Republic, he then went on to medical school, and is currently a physician practicing north of Seattle, Washington. Dr. Chalam still visits Germany every year and maintains a wide network of friends from his time abroad in Europe. By sponsoring a study abroad scholarship, he wishes to enable our German majors to have the same kinds of life-changing experiences in Germany he had. Eligibility requirements: Must be a German major Must be planning to participate in a study abroad program in a German-speaking country Application Materials: A completed application form. A one-page statement of purpose explaining why the student wants to study abroad and how the program will fit into the student’s long-term academic and career objectives. A detailed description of the program the student will be attending, specifying the length of the program and the nature of the classes the student intends to enroll in. You are welcome to include a print-out from a website or a brochure, but please supplement it with a description of your own.
