On Friday, September 23rd, at 5:30 pm the Lamar Dodd School of Art welcomes guest lecturer Suzanne Massie, co-author of the famous book Nicholas and Alexandra: An Intimate Account of the Last of the Romanovs and the Fall of the Russian Empire. This book had immense impact on the development of Russian studies in the U.S. Ms. Massie served as a personal advisor on matters of Russian art and culture to president Ronald Reagan and acted as the unofficial liaison between the U.S. president and Mikhail Gorbachev. She is the keynote speaker for the Georgia Museum's two-day symposium on Russian art and the history of collecting Russian art in the U.S, in conjunction with the Georgia Museum of Art's exhibit entitled "Gifts and Prayers: The Romanovs and their Subjects." The exhibition shows how the Russian family used gifts to maintain power. Take some time this semester to go see it, the pieces will be available for viewing until December 31st!
