This advanced Russian course examines the evolving landscape of contemporary language and digital culture in Russia and beyond. Through the study of social media, memes, subcultures, and street art, students will explore how language is shaped by digital communication, protest movements, and creative expression. A special focus will be placed on the role of taboo language in media, political discourse, and resistance movements, analyzing its function in humor, identity, and dissent. By engaging with multimedia content, including viral trends, online activism, and graffiti, students will deepen their understanding of modern Russian linguistic and cultural dynamics.
