In this course we will explore the relationship between Chekhov-the-prose-writer and Chekhov-the-drama-writer by reading a selection from his prose and dramatic works. Toward the end of the semester, students will choose a selection of Chekhov stories, writing scripts and performing them together. We will finish by looking at various 20th-century prose-masters whose work was influenced by Chekhov's innovations.

Taught in English, but a prerequisite override is needed. Please email the respective professor to request an override.

Satisfies Core Area IV (World Languages and Culture) and the Franklin College Literature requirement.
