Postwar Women Writers Credit Hours: 3 In this course, we will read representative texts written by women authors after 1945, as well as view and discuss films by women filmmakers. We will aim to interpret and understand these works in light of their historical context-- the postwar period, the task of Vergangenheitsbewältigung, the feminist movement, developments in the East and West, as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall and its consequences. Several questions will occupy us throughout the course: Do women write differently? Is there a female aesthetic? How do these texts reflect the lived reality of German women and men? All literary texts, films and class discussions will be in German. Satisfies the Franklin College Literature requirement.
