We’re pleased to announce that thanks to generous support from GSS, the Willson Center, and the Department of Journalism, renowned Russian independent journalist Elena Kostyuchenko will be visiting our campus on March 19th

Elena will present her new book I Love Russia and have a discussion with the UGA community on March 19, 4:00pm, at MLC 148.

Kostyuchenko was the first journalist to write about the punk protest band Pussy Riot and one of the first journalists to report on the presence of Russian fighters in the War in Donbas in Eastern Ukraine.   This reporting led to an assassination order being issued against her.  Despite these risks, Kostyuchenko filed stories from various Ukrainian cities, including Kherson, where she uncovered evidence of kidnappings and torture by Russian soldiers. Elena’s relentless pursuit of truth extended to Mariupol, a city under siege, where she aimed to report despite the closure of her newspaper, Novaya Gazeta.
